Data of
CoRIS

Since CoRIS was created in 2004, the number of participating centres has increased steadily. The cohort currently comprises 48 centres from 14 autonomous communities. The number of individuals participating in the cohort has also been growing, from 816 in 2004 to 19.352 in 2022.

CoRIS participants’ sociodemographic characteristics have also changed over the past 16 years. Men’s participation rate has risen from 76% in 2004 to 87% in 2022.

Likewise, the rate of participants over 50 has risen significantly. In 2004, only 9% of CoRIS participants were older than 50, whereas this age group accounted for 33% of the cohort in 2022.

Furthermore, the rate of participants contracting the infection due to risk behaviour in homo/bisexual intercourse has risen (from 39% in 2004 to 66% in 2020). We have seen a decrease in the rate of participants infected as a result of injecting drug use, from 23% in 2004 to 4% in 2022.

On a different note, 55% out of CoRIS’s 19.352 current participants are Spanish, and 24% originate from Latin America. 30% of participants have a college degree.

87% have started antiretroviral treatment, and 62% have some samples at HIV BioBank.
